Disney Delays “Deadpool 3” Release Date, Shuffles Upcoming Film Slate
In a surprising announcement, Disney has revealed that “Deadpool 3” will not hit theaters as planned on May 3, 2024. Instead, fans will have to wait a few more months as the release date has been rescheduled to July 26, 2024. This news comes as one of many changes made by Disney to its theatrical release slate.
One of the significant shifts includes “Captain America: Brave New World,” which was originally slated to debut on May 14, 2024. It has now been pushed back to February 14, 2025. Additionally, “Thunderbolts” has been moved from November 3, 2024, to July 25, 2025, and “Blade” will now hit theaters on November 7, 2025, instead of October 4, 2024.
Disney also confirmed that the highly anticipated prequel to its 2019 CGI remake of “The Lion King,” titled “Mufasa: The Lion King,” has been delayed. Originally set to release on July 5, 2024, fans will now have to wait until December 20, 2024, to go back to the iconic African savannah.
The production of “Deadpool 3” faced a hurdle earlier this year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which forced a suspension. However, things are looking up as filming is set to resume before the Thanksgiving break.
With the delay of “Deadpool 3,” fans may be disappointed to learn that it is now the only Marvel Studios film scheduled to release in 2024. Typically, Marvel treats fans to three or four films a year, making this a departure from their usual release schedule.
While “Captain America: Brave New World” had already completed principal photography prior to the strike, it is still facing a seven-month delay. On the other hand, “Thunderbolts” and “Blade” have yet to begin production.
The decision to move “Deadpool 3” from its original May release date has left a noticeable gap in the 2024 summer blockbuster lineup. However, Disney still has another highly anticipated film, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” set for a May release. The film will go head-to-head with Warner Bros.’ “Furiosa,” but it remains unclear if any other studios will claim the coveted first days of May.
As fans eagerly await the release of “Deadpool 3” and other highly anticipated Disney films, the reshuffling of the release slate has created excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead in the Marvel and Disney universes.
