LG and Samsung recently showcased their new transparent TVs at the CES show in Las Vegas. LG’s offering, the Signature OLED T, is a 77-inch display that can switch between transparent and opaque modes. In transparent mode, the TV can display art, videos, and data while still allowing users to see through it to the rest of the room. LG plans to release its transparent OLED TV in the second half of this year.
On the other hand, Samsung showcased its transparent Micro LED displays at CES but did not announce timing or pricing for its availability. Micro LED technology is modular, meaning displays of all sizes and shapes can be created. In addition to the transparent displays, Samsung also introduced new non-transparent Micro LED models, including a 76-inch and 114-inch version. However, the pricing of these Micro LED TVs can be quite high, with the 110-inch Micro LED 4K TV priced at around $150,000.
The development of transparent TVs is driven by the desire to free up space in rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows or to separate spaces in an open room or apartment. These TVs offer a unique installation opportunity and can seamlessly blend into the decor. The technology behind transparent TVs is seen as a significant advancement in display technology, providing users with both aesthetic and functional benefits.
Both LG and Samsung’s transparent TVs have garnered attention at the CES show, leaving consumers eager for their release. Although LG’s transparent OLED TV will be hitting the market later this year, Samsung fans will have to wait for further announcements regarding the availability of their transparent Micro LED displays. Nonetheless, the introduction of transparent TVs marks an exciting milestone in the world of display technology.
