ISIS Claims Responsibility for Deadly Attack at Concert Venue Near Moscow
ISIS has claimed responsibility for a horrific attack at a concert venue complex near Moscow that has left at least 60 people dead and 145 injured. The group took credit for the attack in a statement published by ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram on Friday.
The attack involved armed individuals storming the venue, opening fire with automatic weapons, and throwing incendiary devices, which caused a fire to break out. Disturbing video footage captured the panic and chaos as the attack unfolded, with attendees huddling together, screaming, and escaping through broken windows.
As of now, 145 people have been hospitalized, with 60 in serious condition. President Putin has been informed about the attack and is being updated on measures being taken on the ground.
The US had previously warned of a potential attack on large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, earlier in the month. The attack has sparked condemnation from the United Nations, French President Macron, Indian Prime Minister Modi, and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The singer of the band Picnic, which was set to perform at the venue, has pledged to pay for the funerals and treatment of the victims. Meanwhile, the Moscow Mayor has declared the attack a “terrible tragedy” and has canceled all public events in the city for the weekend.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of the public in the wake of this devastating act of violence.
