The highly anticipated hush money business fraud trial of former President Donald Trump kicked off this week with jury selection in New York City. The process got off to a rocky start with challenges and two initial jurors being excused.
Despite the early setbacks, a jury has been seated with only five alternates left to be selected. The trial is expected to be a bumpy ride, as there are restrictions on what the defense can know about the prosecution’s first witnesses.
The seated jury is comprised of seven men and five women, including professionals such as an investment banker, speech therapist, and physical therapist. Interestingly, some jurors admitted to having negative opinions of Trump, but were still chosen to serve.
Jury selection was not without its challenges, as one juror requested to be dismissed and another had a past arrest. Prosecutors have also refused to share the first three witnesses with Trump’s team, citing concerns about the former president’s social media posts.
If all goes according to plan, opening arguments are expected to begin on Monday following the successful completion of jury selection on Friday. Stay tuned for more updates on this high-profile case on Swerd Media.
