Man Arrested for Murder After Body Found in Tilden Regional Park
El Cerrito, California – The El Cerrito Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a murder case that has shocked the community. The suspect, Theobald Brooks Lengyel, was apprehended after a gruesome discovery in Tilden Regional Park.
Police launched an investigation after receiving reports of a missing person, Alice Kamakaokalani Herrmann, from Capitola on December 12. The last known sighting of Herrmann was on December 3, raising concerns among her loved ones. The search for answers quickly intensified, ultimately leading law enforcement to Lengyel.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Lengyel’s residence in El Cerrito, where they made a significant discovery. Herrmann’s vehicle was found parked outside, intensifying suspicions around Lengyel’s involvement. As the investigation progressed, the suspect transformed from a person of interest to the primary suspect in Herrmann’s disappearance.
Tensions escalated further when human remains were uncovered in a wooded section of Tilden Regional Park, near Berkeley. While the coroner’s office works diligently to confirm the identity of the remains, evidence gathered thus far strongly suggests that the body belongs to Herrmann.
Lengyel now faces a multitude of charges, including murder, burglary, and auto theft. Damning evidence and developments throughout the investigation prompted authorities to detain him without bail. He is expected to make his initial court appearance on January 16.
The shocking nature of this crime has left the community reeling, as neighbors and friends struggle to come to terms with the tragedy. The El Cerrito Police Department has assured the public that they are fully committed to ensuring justice for Herrmann and her loved ones.
