North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, is preparing for a historic trip to eastern Russia to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to US officials. The secretive leader will travel on his private train, a unique mode of transportation that has been passed down from his late father, Kim Jong Il.
This train, which is bulletproof and can reach speeds of up to 37 mph, is fueled by Kim Jong Un’s fear of flying. It is equipped with numerous amenities, including conference rooms, multiple bedrooms, satellite phones, flatscreen TVs, and approximately 100 security agents to ensure the safety of the leader. The dining car offers a variety of cuisines, catering to Kim Jong Il’s well-known dietary preferences, which included Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and French delicacies.
Some of the notable items in Kim Jong Un’s personal menu reportedly include Swiss cheese, Cristal Champagne, and Hennessy cognac. During his father’s travels on the train, female performers known as “beautiful lady conductors” entertained him with their songs. Additionally, the convoy is accompanied by a separate train to enhance security.
This upcoming trip will be Kim Jong Un’s first foreign travel since the COVID-19 pandemic began, making it a significant event. However, it is not his first time utilizing his private train for diplomatic purposes. In the past, he has met with leaders such as Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump while traveling on this distinctive mode of transportation.
It is noteworthy that South Korean and US intelligence agencies have been closely monitoring the movements of the train and have even constructed stations specifically designed to accommodate it within North Korea. Furthermore, outside of Pyongyang, a mausoleum features a replica of Kim Jong Un’s train carriages, highlighting the significance and symbolism associated with this mode of transport in the country.
As Kim Jong Un makes his way to Russia, there is heightened anticipation surrounding this meeting between the two leaders. The world will be watching closely as they discuss various issues and potentially set the course for future diplomatic relations between North Korea and Russia.
