Burt Young, the beloved actor best known for his role as Paulie in the iconic “Rocky” films, has passed away at the age of 83. His daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, confirmed that Young died on October 8 in Los Angeles.
Although Young had a diverse acting career spanning several decades, he will forever be remembered for his portrayal of the lovable Paulie Pennino in the “Rocky” franchise. Known for his angry yet endearing character, Paulie started as a foul-mouthed meat packer but eventually became the comic relief in the sequels. The “Rocky” series achieved tremendous success, winning three Oscars, including Best Picture, and Young himself was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
Before pursuing acting, Young had a background in boxing and even fought as a professional. He further honed his craft by studying with the legendary Lee Strasberg at the esteemed Actors Studio. Throughout his career, Young often played tough guys or working class men, both on the big screen and stage.
In addition to his successful acting career, Young had a passion for painting. In his later years, he focused on theater roles and showcased his artwork in gallery shows and sales. A true renaissance man, Young leaves behind a legacy of both talent and creativity.
Young is survived by his daughter, one grandchild, and a brother. His impact on the entertainment industry and the hearts of his fans will forever be cherished.
