Apple has recently unveiled the new M3 MacBook Air, designed to address the slower SSD speeds that users experienced with the base model M2 MacBook Air. The M3 MacBook Air boasts faster performance, Wi-Fi 6E capabilities, and support for dual external displays.
One of the key improvements in the M3 MacBook Air is its storage configuration. While the base model M2 MacBook Air used a single 256GB storage chip, the M3 MacBook Air now utilizes two 128GB storage chips. This new setup allows for significantly faster SSD speeds, as demonstrated in testing by Max Tech.
According to Max Tech’s findings, the M3 MacBook Air offers impressive write speeds of 2108 MB/s and read speeds of 2880 MB/s. These speeds represent a notable improvement over the M2 MacBook Air, with write speeds that are 33% faster and read speeds that are around 82% faster. In fact, the M3 MacBook Air’s SSD speeds are on par with, and in some cases exceed, those of the M1 MacBook Air.

With its improved performance and faster storage capabilities, the M3 MacBook Air is sure to be a hit among Apple fans looking for a powerful yet compact laptop option.
