Popular social media platform Reddit experienced a widespread outage this afternoon, leaving users frustrated and unable to access the site for nearly an hour. Users attempting to visit Reddit were met with an error message, urging them to try again later.
At 12:52PM ET, Reddit made an update on its status page, confirming that the outage was due to a backend issue impacting many users. Downdetector, a service that tracks website outages, reported a significant spike in outage reports around 12:45PM ET.
Fortunately, Reddit quickly identified the issue and began working to resolve it. The platform released another update at 1:24PM ET, announcing that the problem had been identified and was being remediated.
Interestingly, this was not the first issue Reddit faced that day, as the platform had already resolved an earlier problem according to its status page. However, with the recent outage resolved, users can now resume their usual activities on the site.
As Reddit gets back online, users are relieved to have access to the platform once again. The outage serves as a reminder of the importance of staying up-to-date on a website’s status, and the impact that unexpected technical issues can have on users.
