Allstate Protection Plans Reveals Annual Device Drop Test Results
Swerd Media – In its latest annual device drop tests, Allstate Protection Plans, known for its insurance coverage on various gadgets, tested the durability of some of the most expensive smartphones in the market. The test involved popular devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, and Google Pixel Fold.
The test began by submerging each smartphone in water for 30 minutes to determine their water resistance capabilities. Allstate then followed up by dropping the phones from a height of six feet onto a concrete sidewalk. The results revealed an interesting trend.
Although the smartphones demonstrated decent water resistance, they didn’t fare well in the drop test, primarily due to their glass construction. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 were the first to shatter on the initial front screen-down drop. Meanwhile, the Z Fold5 and Google Pixel Fold withstood two screen-down drops but suffered frame damage, screen dents, and scuffing.
Moving on to the closed outer display drop test, both the Z Fold5 and Google Pixel Fold shattered upon impact. In the back-down drop tests, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 shattered immediately. Despite the shattered screens, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was still functional, although two of its cameras ceased to work due to the damage.
These results raise questions about the durability of smartphones with glass construction and whether there has been a significant improvement in drop test results over the years, particularly with Apple’s continuous glass upgrades.
It’s important to note that drop tests can vary based on several variables, such as the angle of the fall, the material it hits, and the speed of the drop. Allstate Protection Plans’ tests may not necessarily reflect real-world results. However, the findings do serve as a reminder to smartphone users to consider protective cases made specifically for glass phones. In response to such concerns, Apple offers โAppleCare+ for accidental damage coverage, which could provide peace of mind for iPhone users.
While the Allstate Protection Plans’ device drop test results should not be taken as the ultimate verdict on smartphone durability, they do offer valuable insights for consumers looking to protect their investment in high-end devices. As technology continues to advance, it becomes increasingly crucial to strike a balance between sleek design and robust construction.
