Children’s products company Tomy has issued a recall for over 85,000 highchairs due to a potential fall risk. The recall affects approximately 83,000 highchairs sold in the U.S. and 2,850 sold in Canada. The issue relates to the bolts used to secure the seats of certain Boon Flair and Flair Elite highchairs, which have the potential to come loose and detach the seat from the base.
According to reports, there have been 34 incidents in the U.S. relating to this issue, resulting in 24 falls and 11 minor injuries, such as bruises or scratches. To ensure safety, Tomy is urging caregivers to check if their highchair is affected by the recall. The affected highchairs include Boon Flair models manufactured before September 2016, as well as all Boon Flair Elite models.
To determine if their highchair is included in the recall, caregivers can find the model number and manufacturing date code on a label underneath the base of the chair. In response to the recall, Tomy is offering a free repair kit, which includes bolts and washers, to address the issue and ensure the highchairs are safe for use.
These highchairs were sold in various retail stores and online platforms, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, Amazon, and others. The Flair Elite highchairs were priced around $380 and were sold from 2008 to 2009. The Flair highchairs ranged from $230 to $250 and were available from January 2008 to February 2017.
This recall has also prompted Health Canada to issue a recall for these products, emphasizing the importance of addressing the potential fall risk and ensuring the safety of children using these highchairs. Customers who have purchased these highchairs are advised to contact Tomy for further instructions on obtaining the free repair kit.
As a responsible and reliable children’s products company, Tomy is taking swift action to address this issue and prioritize the safety of its customers. The company advises caregivers to discontinue use of the affected highchairs until the necessary repairs have been made.
