Meghan Markle Opens Up About Online Abuse During SXSW Panel
During a panel discussion at the SXSW conference, Meghan Markle revealed the extent of online abuse she faced, particularly while she was pregnant or after giving birth. The Duchess of Sussex, accompanied by Brooke Shields, Katie Couric, and author Nancy Wang Yuen, spoke about the harmful effects of online trolling.
Markle questioned the audience, including her husband Prince Harry, about the hateful online behavior, labeling it as cruel. She shared her personal experiences of giving birth to her son Archie while still a working member of the royal family, and two years later to daughter Lilibet after quitting royal duties.
The Duchess has been vocal about the impact of online hate on her mental health, even revealing during an Oprah interview that she had contemplated ending her life due to the online vitriol. She also expressed gratitude for Harry as an incredible partner and hands-on dad during the panel.
Before her panel appearance at SXSW, the royal couple enjoyed a romantic date night at the Soho House in Austin. Markle, billed as a visionary female leader, used her platform to shed light on the prevalence of online abuse and the importance of combating it.
